This if the final part of our server trilogy, read part one here and part two here.
Let’s start with the basics:
- IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service
- PaaS – Platform as a Service
Still confused? Think of it like this: imagine you’re opening a restaurant.
IaaS is like leasing a fully stocked kitchen. You get the ovens, refrigerators, and counter space. You just bring your recipes, staff, and start cooking. In the tech world, that means Azure provides you with virtual machines (those are like pretend computers that live in the cloud), storage, and networks. You manage the software and apps you use, but Azure takes care of the heavy lifting—like hardware and electricity (and the stress of fixing a server when it decides to take a nap at 2 AM).
PaaS, on the other hand, is like leasing the kitchen and also hiring a sous-chef. Azure not only gives you the space and tools but also helps you cook. In tech speak, PaaS includes everything IaaS provides, plus more services like databases, app hosting, and development tools. You focus on creating your secret sauce (your app or service), and Azure handles the behind-the-scenes magic.
