Time to upgrade from Microsoft Office 2013

Microsoft is ending its support for Office 2013. This includes the extended support, which ends on 11 April 2023.

What does this mean?

While you will be able to continue to run Office 2013, after April, Microsoft will stop releasing security updates which could put your systems and networks at risk of security breaches. It’s important that you keep your business protected from potential breaches – take a look at security protection options that Wessex IT can provide.

As well as security vulnerabilities, you may also experience performance and reliability problems over time, for example if you connect to Microsoft 365 with an Office 2013 client. You could also find that Microsoft Help can’t resolve new issues that arise.

What should you do?

We recommend that our clients upgrade to Microsoft 365 Apps for Business or speak to us so that we can recommend the most appropriate licence for you. This is a subscription service which gives you Office applications through the Cloud. This gives you access to the latest Office software, is the most secure Office version and enables your team to work together from anywhere.

Do you need a subscription?

Having a subscription instead of purchasing software has become the norm. It means that you always have access to the latest version of applications as they are updated so you don’t have to keep upgrading.

Don’t forget…

While updating your Office package, you should take the opportunity to review what other software you have. For example, Java, which has become a paid for service to keep it up to date. You can choose to remove this from your machines and we are reviewing this with customers, so speak to your account manager if you are unsure what to do.

Contact your account manager to upgrade.

If you are unsure what Office version you are running or want to know more about Office 365, contact your account manager for a chat.
